The sky was dark, the morning birds were chirping, heralding the coming of the sun, and I was grabbing my camera and a very large coffee, headed out the door to an Isla Mujeres Engagement Portraits. When Paloma and Connor agreed to my crazy plan to beat the heat and the tourists by scheduling their engagement session at sunrise, especially as they were on a vacation, I was beyond thrilled to be working with a couple who was so willing to trust my vision
When we met for the 6 a.m. ferry to Isla Mujeres, I was amazed by Paloma’s stunning, camera-ready hair and makeup. She must have been up at 4 a.m. to get ready and travel to the ferry! Talk about dedication! And they weren’t the only ones up for an early morning adventure. An aunt, uncle and cousin, who were also joining them on vacation, came along to help out, too!
After our ferry ride to the island, the sky glowed a dusty blue, and we were thrilled to find that, just as we had hoped, we had the beach all to ourselves. The water couldn’t have been a more vibrant blue, and their outfits coordinated beautifully with the scene. Despite the heat, humidity and unmercifully still air without even the slightest breeze, Paloma and Connor smiled without complaint throughout the entire shoot. As the warm morning sun lit up their faces, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that we were making art.
Here’s what Paloma had to say after her gallery was delivered:
“Mónica is amazing. From the first messages we exchanged where she suggested locations for the engagement session, to the end where we had to change the date and time last minute to avoid the upcoming storms, I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. She is kind, patient, accommodating, and talented. On top of all of that- we received our pictures 2 weeks earlier than expected! What??!! We are so happy with the outcome. We will cherish these photos forever. Don’t hesitate to book Monica!”
